St. Martini Leadership Team

Yazmin Perez, Principal
Yazmin Perez

Yazmin Perez 's educational path began at Alverno College in Milwaukee, WI, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Early Middle Education with a minor in Spanish. Yazmin’s  thirst for knowledge led her to also complete her Masters as a Reading Specialist and to undertake Administrative Leadership courses at Alverno College. Ms. Perez is currently working towards obtaining her Principal and Director of Instruction License, a testament to her commitment to educational leadership.

Before formally stepping into the role of a teacher and working in the field of education, she gained valuable experience in various settings. Yazmin worked in before and after school programs, daycares, and dedicated her time to volunteering with Pathfinders, a Christian youth group. Her formal career in education commenced in the School District of Waukesha, where she embarked on her  journey right after her student teaching internship. In Waukesha, she served as a Dual Language Teacher for grades K-3rd, took on the role of an Instructional Coach, and assumed the responsibilities of the Elementary AVID Coordinator. It was this journey that eventually led her to the southside of Milwaukee, where she’s proud to serve as principal of LUMIN Schools, St. Martini Lutheran and continue making a difference in the lives of her students.

What makes St. Martini Lutheran truly special is the abundance of hopes and dreams that flourish within its walls. It exudes a welcoming and supportive atmosphere, akin to a close-knit family, and is teeming with possibilities waiting to be explored.

Ms. Perez's philosophy about education is deeply rooted in the belief that we are all perpetual learners, and it is this constant learning that fuels our growth and transformation.

What she cherishes most about her work are the little moments that light up each day—the smiles, the "light bulb" moments, the boundless curiosity, and the unquenchable thirst for knowledge. As a leader, she aspires to create a safe and nurturing space where both scholars and staff can find reassurance in the knowledge that everything is going to be alright, because we are all part of God's perfect plan.

Yazmin’s hopes for LUMIN scholars as they journey through their educational path is that they discover the power to advocate for themselves, cultivate unwavering self-confidence, and fulfill the divine mission that God has set before them.

One of her favorite Bible verses, Jeremiah 29:11, reminds her of the beautiful plans that God has in store for each of us, plans filled with hope and a bright future.

In her free time, she enjoys going for walks, spending quality time with her children, indulging in a captivating movie, or strengthening the bonds with her siblings.

Among her proudest accomplishments, she holds her continued education and Masters degree dear to her heart. The path that has led her to a leadership position is one she never envisioned, but now she hopes to inspire others to reach their full potential.
